Poetry in Practice: a 10 week poetry course with Jim C. Wilson
From Thu 15th Sept, 2-4pm for 10 weeks. After 25 years at the University of
Edinburgh, poet and author Jim C Wilson’s Poetry in Practice sessions have
moved to the Scottish Poetry Library. The next course will consist of 10
sessions. Each session will take place on a Thursday afternoon from 2.00
pm until 4.00 pm, starting on 15th September. There are 10 places
available. Enrolment is online only. The fee for the 10 weeks is £150.
THE BEST WORDS IN THE BEST ORDER
The core activity of each session will be detailed analysis and constructive criticism of poems by three or four group members. There will also be consideration of various forms (sonnet, sestina, cinquain, etc.) and news about publications and events. From time to time, poems by established writers, past and present, will also be examined. And Poetry in Practice has developed a unique approach to the renga (Japanese linked poem), producing one verse each week!
Material for each session will be emailed to members several days in advance and they should download this and bring it with them on Thursday afternoons.
